DEEP PURPLE / SBB - Warszawa
Deep Purple will appear on stage in the same perfect lineup it did three months ago during the very well received show in Spodek: vocalist Ian Gillan, bass player Roger Glover, guitarist Steve Morse, drummer Ian Paice and Don Airey playing the keyboard. The Purple formation continues the tour promoting their newest album “Rapture Of The Deep”, which was released last year in October. Almost every concert during the tour was sold-out.
The band’s two-hour show in “Spodek”, played this year in February, consisted of songs from “Rapture Of The Deep”, the memorable “Contact Lost”, dedicated to the victims of the construction catastrophe in the hall of the International Katowice Expo, and the thrilling classics: “Perfect Strangers”, “Space Truckin”, “Highway Star” and the immortal “Smoke On The Water”. For encore, they played “Hush” and “Black Night”. Deep Purple and their Polish fans are preparing themselves for a fantastic replay of the event on 9th October in Warsaw.
Just like in February, SBB will appear as a special guest. Their performance found appreciation especially from Deep Purple, who decided to invite again our leading art-rock formation for their performance. Let us remind that in February in “Spodek” the band played in an unique lineup – as a quartet. Irek Głyk replaced Paul Wertico on drums and after a 25-year break we will hear Sławek Piwowar playing the second guitar! “Memento z banalnym tryptykiem”, dedicated to the victims of the collapse in Hala Targowa in Katowice was fantastically received by the audience. “Walkin’ Around The Stormy Bay” with Apostolis on the second drum set stunned with rock dynamics. A great selection of songs, careful proportions between the live performances of the compositions from “New Century” and the true “classic SBB” along with an enriched sound, give a truly remarkable show. The album containing this performance – “Live in Spodek” - will be released 5th June.
Let us remind that Deep Purple worked on the album “Rapture Of The Deep” in a studio in Los Angeles, along with producer Mike Bradford, with whom the band earlier worked on “Bananas”. Apart from that Bradford produced albums of such artists as Madonna (“Ray Of Light”), Anita Baker, New Radicals, Unkle Kracker, Kid Rock, The Butthole Surfers and Terence Trent D’Arby. The record was received sensationally and the critics appreciated it even more than “Bananas”. Four live bonus tracks appeared on the special edition of “Rapture Of The Deep”: Rapture Of The Deep, Wrong Man, Highway Star and Smoke On The Water. As the musicians themselves say, their 17th studio album is harder than the previous one and refers to the best years in the band’s career. Ian Gillian admits, that the band had never before toured with such pleasure and the Polish public gives them a lot of energy. The artists always return to Poland happily and quite often, and the tickets for their shows are being sold out with unchangeable regularity. The autumn visit will be the ninth they made in our country and the second Polish stop on their world tour that will last for 2 years. No one who saw the band perform live needs special assurance, that their show is a truly epic spectacle. The rock legends will prove it again 9th October!
