Sculpture - one of the most intriguing gothic metal releases of all times to be re-released soon
The world of gothic metal holds many secrets and surprises. The self-titled album by Sculpture, a German group formed in 1997, is certainly one of the most unique treasures hidden in the realm of gloom and despair. The LP featured a thrilling mixture of gothic and heavy metal, delivered in the finest proportions ? the eleven tracks featured on ?Sculpture? captured all the crucial elements of both genres and forged them into perfection.
Sculpture was formed by guitarist/keyboardist/vocalist Lothar ?Lotte? Forst, just after he left his previous group ? Crematory. Forst wrote all the music, co-wrote the lyrics and co-produced the entire album, making it pretty much a one-man effort. Nevertheless, he managed to gather a handful of talented musicians to help him out with his project ? Hans Mappes (bass), Stefan Hertrich (vocals; known also from Darkseed, Betray My Secrets, Shiva In Exile and SpiRitual) and Thomas (drums). The album also featured guest vocal performances by Gerhard Magin (on ?Heaven Died?) and Prince Charming (on ?Why?). Unfortunately, Sculpture disbanded after playing a few shows with The Gathering in 1999. Some say it was because of the serious motorcycle accident in which Hans Mappes was involved. Despite the reason, the band ceased to exist and their self-titled debut album is all they left behind.
The exclusive remastered edition of ?Sculpture? brings back one of the most intriguing gothic metal releases of all times, and a true gem for connoisseurs of pure musical darkness? New digipak version will be released by Metal Mind Productions on 18th August 2008 in Europe and 30th September 2008 in USA (via MVD).
