TANK
TANK has been considered a major force on the worldwide rock and metal scene since itʼs formation in 1980 by former ‘Damned’ bass player ‘Algy Ward’. Starting with the bandʼs punk influenced debut album ʻThe Filth Hounds of Hadesʼ through to the 2015 metal epic ʻValley of Tearsʼ, the band has delivered some of the finest rock and metal music to come out of the UK over the past 3 decades.
The band have toured alongside rock giants such as Motorhead and Saxon and were fortunate to be chosen as the opening act on Metallica’s legendary ʻRide the Lightningʼ tour across Europe in the winter of 1984.
Most recent shows include opening for Judas Priest on their sold out ʻEpitaphʼ tour which was filmed and released as the bandʼs very first DVD – TANK, War Machine Live! Upon itʼs release in 2012 it went straight in at Number 1 in the Metal Hammer Eastern European Chart.
Several lineup changes have taken place throughout the years. One of the most significant being the addition of former Rainbow/Malmsteen vocalist ʻDoogie Whiteʼ who joined forces with 30 year TANK veterans ʻMick Tuckerʼ and ʻCliff Evansʼ in 2009. Doogieʼs vocal performance and writing skills on the ʻWar Machineʼ and ʻWar Nationʼ albums contributed in making them two of TANKʼs most successful albums and opened the door for the band to move forward into a new era.
In 2013 a new vocalist was recruited to replace Doogie White who was booked out on a world tour as a member of the Michael Schenker Group. Original Dragonforce frontman and current Skid Row vocalist ʻZP Theartʼ was asked to join the ranks for a summer of European festival shows and went on to become a permanent member of the bandʼs touring and recording line up.
Former Sodom drummer ʻBobby Schottkowskiʼ and Blind Guardian bass player ʻBarend Courboisʼ were hired for the recording of Tank’s ‘Valley of Tears’ album which was released in 2015 through Metal Mind Productions and went on to be one of the band’s best selling albums.
In the summer of 2017 ZP Theart left the band to become the new frontman for 90’s rock legends ‘Skid Row’. His replacement is ‘David Readman’, best known for his work as vocalist for German band Pink Cream 69.
The most recent new recruit and youngest member of the band is bassist Randy Van Der Elsen who has brought new energy to the line up with his unique style of bass playing and amazing vocals.
In June 2019 the album Re-Ignition was released. It featured re-recordings of 11 classic Tank songs chosen from the first four albums and given a full metal make over with an updated production.
The album also featured special guests which included Cradle of Filth frontman ‘Dani Filth’ and also German thrash legend ‘Tom Angelripper’ from Sodom.
After successful tours of Australia and Japan this summer, Tank will now start recording their next studio album which is scheduled for release in early 2020.
