THE MUSICAL BOX PERFORMS GENESIS - Katowice
Many Genesis enthusiastics (old and new) have never seen these legendary shows and were only able to catch deliverance of time-witnesses on how unique the shows had been. But the real pity after all is - they never had the chance to experience the young Peter Gabriel in his many roles as an "actor" and singer of Genesis. The Musical Box makes this dream come true. Unlike ordinary "tribute" bands (performing songs in random order for the sake of nostalgia), they have taken an enormous effort of time to precisely rebuild every tiny detail or even to locate and provide the original materials: instruments, masks, costumes, stage sets, PA and light sets, visual effects. The result is the perfect illusion of a virtual time machine - to recapture the magic of those concerts and give people the impression of being at an original Genesis show. All of the song introductions and off-the-wall stories in between, every song, every movement by Gabriel, the original light impressions and all of the genuine multimedia effects are a carbon copy of the exact Genesis performance 30 years ago.
The Musical Box is the only band in the world who ever obtained an official license from Genesis and Peter Gabriel. Both Peter Gabriel and Michael Rutherford attended The Musical Box concerts in England 2002, and Steve Hackett even joined The Musical Box on stage at the majestic Royal Albert Hall in London to play guitar for an extra encore of "Firth Of Fifth". In February 2005, Phil Collins attended the "Lamb" concert in Geneva and joined The Musical Box on drums for the encore "The Musical Box".
In the early 70s, Genesis' Tony Banks, Phil Collins, Peter Gabriel, Steve Hackett and Mike Rutherford were about to re-define the concept of a rock concert. Genesis artistry had such a profound impact on its audience that, to this day, it still enjoys a cult-like following. The Musical Box has been re-enacting Genesis performances as originally presented between 1973 and 1975. With the multimedia live-performance of their 5th album "Selling England by the Pound", the audience was presented a fantastic stage-show which - for the applied slide projectors, the extraordinary lightshow as well as the multifarious costumes - rose to a kind of "musical performance". The press hailed the shows and praised Genesis to the top of rock Olympus. Their epic songs, sometimes lasting up to 20 minutes and filled with profound lyrics, not only cast a spell over the audience but also the press. Genesis became cult and Peter Gabriel the eccentric, audible and visual focus of the show. Genesis didn't make simple music but wrote musical history. Since then, concerts had been sold out until the middle of the '70s and later on their shows had reached attendance in dimensions of ten-thousands.
The band The Musical Box (covering Genesis songs of the years '72 - '75) met Denis Gagné and Serge Morissette (two Genesis lovers of that period) in Montreal, Canada, in the beginning of the '90s. The idea of both was to bring the "Selling England By The Pound" tour of 1973 (which also passed Montreal back in 1973) back to life in its unique originality for its 20th anniversary. Within only a few months and by means of intense research, including the help of amateur-videos and sound recordings as well as the deliverance of time-witnesses and also the active help of the Genesis management and former band technicians, they did manage to exactly rebuild all the original stage-decorations, masks, costumes, light and sound-equipment and above all the representational performance of the "Selling England By The Pound" show.
Genesis fully supports The Musical Box in every aspect:
Peter Gabriel: "The Musical Box recreated, very accurately I must say, what Genesis was doing. I saw them in Bristol with my children, so they could see what their father did back then."
Steve Hackett: "I cannot imagine that you could have a better tribute for any act. They not only manage to sound, but look virtually identical. It seems as though nothing is too difficult for them."
"I think they're the closest thing to seeing us back in either 1973, 1974 or 1975. They spend a tremendous amount of time recreating the whole thing and probably play it better than we did at the time!"
Phil Collins: "The Musical Box are a group of artists who have, over the years, painstakingly recreated various periods of the early Genesis years, with amazing accuracy and aplomb."
"They have uncannily captured US BACK THEN in every way."
The Musical Box show is the only way to experience the magic of the legendary shows by Genesis!!!!!
